From a comment thread on an Ezra Klein post about the potential for a Fred Thompson candidacy:

Have the DC hospitals seen an increase in fingernail injuries? From all the bottom-of-the-barrel scraping that the GOP is doing?

Why not just nominate the corpse of Ronald Reagan and be done with it?

  1. I think zombie candidates could really liven up the field… I hear zombie Ronald Reagan is clean and articulate.

    I like the whole quote too. The question is, where have all their groomed “top of the barrel” picks gone? Scandals and lost elections! (Or even both, as is the case in Virginia).

  2. By the time McCain would come up for reelection there might not be much difference in ability between him and said corpse.

    (I hope McCain has a long, healthy, and productive life but that doesn’t mean I want to play the odds with the presidency on the table.).
